Today's brunch was
poffertjes, mini pancakes, topped with sliced fresh strawberries, powdered sugar and butter. Yum!
Mike is still sick. :( Earlier this afternoon he almost fainted in the bathroom. His tummy was upset that made him want to relieve himself and hurl at the same time. He did neither. He went back to the couch and asked me if it came to him doing both at the same time, what would I rather clean up on the floor: poop or vomit? I said neither. He can sit on the toilet and throw up in a basin. Then he asked me again, what if there's no basin? I said, there will always be a basin. I got it ready just in case. He laughed afterwards.
I've been feeling like wanting to do something but wasn't really sure what. I attempted to sew but that didn't work out. I just stared at my sewing machine and the fabrics I took out to make throw pillowcases with. There was no inspiration. Distracted, that's how my day was. In fact, my weekend was the same. I didn't get much done. Seeing Mike lying sick on the couch is simply disheartening.
But I had to do something or I'd go crazy. I remembered that I have a basket full of old fashion and food magazines that needed sorting. They were only gathering dust in the corner of the study. So what I did was peruse through them one by one, ripping pages with inspiring photos, designs and recipes while chucking the rest into the trash bag. When I was done with them, I thought about doing the same with my home magazines, but I don't have the heart to throw them away. I can't get myself to even try to cut a photo, let alone rip a whole page. They're staying where they are.
There's nothing better than your mom making chicken soup when you're too sick to eat anything else. Mike called up his mom asking her to make him exactly that. She said that we could make it ourselves but he insisted it's not the same. And I agree, it really isn't the same. There's something about a mother's cooking that you crave for when you're sick. It's almost like a cure. The parents-in-law came by later this afternoon with the hot chicken soup with buns and cheese to go with it and some meatballs which Mike loves (I hope he'll eat them tomorrow).
Thank God for wonderful parents! And thank you for the well wishes!
