xoxo, gracey

Yikes! I'm becoming a food addict.

All we do lately is eat. I have been craving for those prairie roasted potatoes and onion rings so we went out and had some for dinner. I know, they're not really healthy, but I wanted to eat them! Mike's food was the veg salad with chicken (he wasn't hungry and he's on a diet, he says..) and the rest was mine! Yummeeeh for me! Hahaha.

I seriously have to be on a diet now!

Brunch and Cards

Today's brunch was milk and bagel with brie. It's been a while since I had a bagel and drank fresh milk so it's worth sharing.

On other things, my head is buzzing with ideas and making lists keeps me sane. I had to put down the books I have been reading to avoid chaos and confusion up there. Mental multi-tasking is an art I have yet to master. When we were at a cousin's birthday party yesterday, my hands were itching to grab the notebook stashed inside my bag so I could sketch designs and make more lists. It'd be rude to do that so I spent the time telling Mike about it. I couldn't wait to put the idea into picture then execute to see if it works. The coming weeks will be all about that.

Looks like Little Ms Firefly and I are on the same creative wavelength as we've been making new flatcard designs recently. Go check her blog and see all the lovely things she makes.

I have been toying with the idea of making my own envelopes but didn't get to it until a few evenings ago. I'm quite pleased with the result so I'm making more of them to match the flatcards for my spring collection. I'm going to put these up for sale as soon as the shop website is up. In the meantime, I will busy myself with making other things which I will show you in the coming days. If you do wish to purchase now, feel free to e-mail me and I will fill you in with the details.

You've no idea how this is exciting and scary for me. To actually put the stuff I make out there hoping that someone somewhere will like them. But I'm going to try anyway!

Comfort Food

Today's brunch was poffertjes, mini pancakes, topped with sliced fresh strawberries, powdered sugar and butter. Yum!

Mike is still sick. :( Earlier this afternoon he almost fainted in the bathroom. His tummy was upset that made him want to relieve himself and hurl at the same time. He did neither. He went back to the couch and asked me if it came to him doing both at the same time, what would I rather clean up on the floor: poop or vomit? I said neither. He can sit on the toilet and throw up in a basin. Then he asked me again, what if there's no basin? I said, there will always be a basin. I got it ready just in case. He laughed afterwards.

I've been feeling like wanting to do something but wasn't really sure what. I attempted to sew but that didn't work out. I just stared at my sewing machine and the fabrics I took out to make throw pillowcases with. There was no inspiration. Distracted, that's how my day was. In fact, my weekend was the same. I didn't get much done. Seeing Mike lying sick on the couch is simply disheartening.

But I had to do something or I'd go crazy. I remembered that I have a basket full of old fashion and food magazines that needed sorting. They were only gathering dust in the corner of the study. So what I did was peruse through them one by one, ripping pages with inspiring photos, designs and recipes while chucking the rest into the trash bag. When I was done with them, I thought about doing the same with my home magazines, but I don't have the heart to throw them away. I can't get myself to even try to cut a photo, let alone rip a whole page. They're staying where they are.

There's nothing better than your mom making chicken soup when you're too sick to eat anything else. Mike called up his mom asking her to make him exactly that. She said that we could make it ourselves but he insisted it's not the same. And I agree, it really isn't the same. There's something about a mother's cooking that you crave for when you're sick. It's almost like a cure. The parents-in-law came by later this afternoon with the hot chicken soup with buns and cheese to go with it and some meatballs which Mike loves (I hope he'll eat them tomorrow).

Thank God for wonderful parents! And thank you for the well wishes!

The bug bites.

This morning we had mixed fruits and orange juice for breakfast. I was not so big on drinking pure orange juice because it has a sort of bitter after taste that lingers in your mouth but I learned a way to avoid that and now I'm hooked. I drink it everyday.

A visible sign of spring marked the whole weekend. The sun was blazing and the sky was a clear azure. Irony, on the other hand, managed to show up just about the same time the sun came out to play. We stayed indoors most of the two days when we were supposed to be out and about enjoying the glorious weather, stroll along the park, shop for plants for the balcony and stay the whole Sunday afternoon with friends. We had the weekend planned out but, unfortunately, that had to be postponed. We were forced to stay in because Mike is not feeling too well. I became his arms and legs, getting him stuff and sometimes assist him as he gets dizzy the minute he stands up to walk to the bathroom. Poor hunnie. He's all feverish and been buried under layers of blankets since Friday with headaches that don't seem to go away.

I don't know if I'm having sympathy pains or something because I'm feeling lightheaded and a headache is slowly forming. And the second my head hits a pillow, all I want to do is snooze.

Peaches 'n Cream

Toni hosted another blog carnival this month and it's I dream about peaches 'n cream. I have been wanting to make kwarktaart, yoghurt cheese or quark cheese cake, for a while so last night we made one out of a box. It was a simple mixing of ingredients which are the yoghurt cheese, whipped cream, water and the peach flavored powder mix. The bottom is made of butter and something like graham cracker crumbs, not sure what it was because it also came in the box. We let it sit in the fridge overnight and enjoyed it with our afternoon tea today.

Photo taken through Mike's Nokia.

Side note: Went to check for lenses today and the one Nikon has which I've been eyeing for sometime now cost more than the camera. I might have to settle for a Tamron in the meantime.

Tuna Spread

This is my favorite lunch.

Don't mind that it looks kind of gross because it tastes really good.

Canned tuna in olive oil (drained), pickles, mayo (made with yoghurt), a pinch of salt and pepper, and bread. I used to not like brown bread because I always thought it tasted bland, but I was proven wrong. I think it was two years ago that I started eating it because it's healthy and tastes quite good. I'm still not a big fan of bread though. I can't eat it everyday.

Here's to you, Mama!

May you have more happy and blessed years to come!
I'm thinking about you.
Happy, happy birthday!

With much love from across the world and a big slice of cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream,
Your only daughter
